Daniel Tusjak

A Melbourne-based (Naarm) musician, Daniel is a sought-after pianist for his stylistic versatility, strong sight-reading, and extensive improvisational vocabulary. Daniel has shared the stage with some of Australia’s household names, including Peter Cupples, Debra Byrne, Kate Ceberano, Luke Kennedy and Max Sharam, and seasonally plays for Australian Girls Choir, Victorian Opera, and Downbeat Big Band.

Daniel has worked as Music Director on A Chorus Line, Made In Dagenham, Welcome To Thebes, Motor-Mouth Loves Suck-Face, and Crush! The Musical at Arts Academy Ballarat, where he has also consistently worked as accompanist and audition pianist since 2018. While Daniel has done the rounds as repetiteur and pit musician for various institutions and theatre companies–notably the Australian Premiere of Catch Me If You Can–he is an advocate for new works and independent artists, more recently playing in the development bands for Fresno the Musical (Chapel Off Chapel) and Op Shop ‘Til You Drop (MICF), and composed for RAGE BAIT (MICF) and Infectuated (Melbourne Fringe).

An award-nominated composer, Daniel’s short film credits include A Gift Horse (My RØDE Reel nomination for Best Original Score), Bear, Panther, and On the Wall, and video game music and sound design includes StarMade, Royal Children’s Hospital’s Create Explore Learn, and MindQuest. His commission for the Gold Museum, Ballarat’s Wonderful Things exhibition featured his own “East meets West” heritage. His suite for solo piano garnered the praise of Dr. Michael Kieran Harvey, describing the work as having a “high level of artistic integrity in the composition” that “displays profound thought and emotional depth”. In his early career, Daniel was director of music for Equip Creative, composing, producing and performing for theatrical (notably Pirates: The Search for Christmas Treasure) and sacred forms and touring internationally.

Daniel holds a Masters in Music (Contemporary Practice) from Box Hill Institute which featured cross-disciplinary collaboration and contemporary application with new technologies. He works extensively in the education space and continues to apply and share his comprehensive grasp on music as a dramaturgical language at the Arts Academy Ballarat, where he currently teaches into the Bachelor of Music Theatre and Acting degree. He will be music directing the 2025 Graduating Company’s production of Pippin.
